Papuans renew calls for Independence

Thousands of people have joined mass rallies in cities and towns around Papua to mark the handover from UN to Indonesian control in 1963.

Demo Referendum For West Papua

In a direct challenge to Jakarta, the demonstrators are calling for a new referendum on independence.
The rallies also mark the rise of younger activists impatient with the lack of progress over decades of demanding a fairer deal from Indonesia.

Indonesia is a multiparty democracy with a population of approximately 237 million. In July 2009 Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was reelected president in free and fair elections. Domestic and international observers judged the April 2009 legislative elections generally free and fair as well. Security forces reported to civilian authorities, although the fact the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) continued to be partly self-financed had the potential to weaken this control.
Human rights problems during the year included: occasional incidents, primarily in Papua and West Papua Provinces, of arbitrary and unlawful killings by security forces; vigilantism; sometimes harsh prison conditions; impunity for some officials; official corruption, including in the judicial system; some narrow and specific limitations on freedom of expression; societal abuse against religious groups and interference with freedom of religion

KNPB : Status Politik Papua Siap Diusut Ke Mahkamah Internasional

Bucthar Tabuni Ketua Umum Komite Nasional Papua Barat (KNPB) menyatakan saat ini perjuangan  International Lawyers for West Papua (ILWP) siap mengajukan status politik Papua untuk di bahas di Mahkamah Internasional.

"Ada sekitar 62 angota ILWP (pengacara internasional), 50 anggotanya  dari beberapa negara di wilayah Eropa dan 12 anggota lainya dari Pasifik, akan menggugat pelaksanaan PEPERA 1969 ke Mahkamah Internasional pada tanggal 2 agustus 2011 nanti." kata Bucthar Kepada Cendem, Sabtu (9/4)

Akar Masalah Papua: Tinjauan Historis

Perlu Saudara-saudara ketahui bahwa Akar Pokok Permasalahan di Papua adalah Bukan Masalah Kesejahteraan tetapi Masalah Sabotase wilayah yang dilakukan oleh Pemerintah Republik Indonesia terhadap Belanda.

Yang mana, Papua adalah salah satu wilayah Dekolonisasi yang telah dipersiapkan Belanda untuk Merdeka di kemudian hari seperti beberapa wilayah di daerah Pacific seperti Australia, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Vanuatu, dll.

Faktor inilah yang menyebabkan sehingga Belanda harus kembali ke West Papua dan Inggris kembali ke Papua New Guinea setelah mengalahkan Jepang melalui Perang Dunia Ke-2 di Kawasan Pacific yang dibawah pimpinan Jenderal Mc. Arthur.

Mengapa Belanda ingin kembali juga ke Indonesia?

Nurses arrests violate human rights

KontraS Papua, the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence, is convinced that the detention of five nurses by the police in Papua is a violation of their human rights. KontraS Papua member, Olga Helena Hamadi said that the police should not treat the nurses as criminals, adding that the government should quickly act to resolve this case.

Menguat, Tuntutan Referendum Papua

Dewan Adat Papua dan Front Pepera menuntut dialog internasional dan referendum. Pemerintah tidak boleh menutup mata atas masalah Papua.

ayapura –Dewan Adat Papua kembali mendesak pemerintah menggelar dialog internasional untuk membahas persoalan Papua. Referendum dipilih sebagai pintu meluruskan sejarah masa lampau yang dianggap menyimpang.

Hal itu dikatakan Ketua Dewan Adat Papua, Forkorus Yoboisembut, di Jayapura, Rabu (23/3). “Tidak ada jalan lain untuk membicarakan Papua setelah Otsus gagal, hanya ada dialog internasional dan referendum,” katanya.

Papuan torture victims ready to testify

Indonesia's National Human Rights Commission says the military should reopen a stalled investigation into the torture of two Papuan men.

The National Human Rights Commission sent a team to Papua to investigate the torture of the men, which was captured in a chilling video which was shown around the world.

The commission says it has located the two torture victims and they are ready to testify against their abusers.

Lawyer: Katsav ‘convinced of his innocence,’ will appeal

“We believe that the District Court convicted Katsav based on shaky and unfounded testimony," Zion Amir says in interview with the 'Post.'

A day after the former president was sentenced to seven years in prison, Katsav’s lawyers are already planning their appeal to the Supreme Court. In an interview with The Jerusalem Post on Wednesday, Katsav’s attorney Zion Amir said the ex-president was convinced of his innocence and would see the case through to the end.

“Katsav will go before the Supreme Court with his head held high, with full conviction of the justness of his claims and with faith that the Supreme Court will lend an ear to his arguments,” said Amir.

Amir said that in light of the sentencing, and particularly in light of the minority opinion expressed by Judge Judith Shevach, the defense was convinced that there is a possibility that both the sentence and the conviction would be overturned.
